On November 15, the Dandies and Quaintrelles, a DC social group self-described as existing “for those who desire the company of others with good manners, refined style and delicious bits of gossip to share”, put on the capital’s first Tweed Ride. A total of 320 riders joined together on a magical 77 degree Sunday in November to celebrate good taste, good company, and a good cause. Donations were collected throughout the event to support Arts for the Aging. The ride was one of the most positive events I’ve ever been to in Washington, with not a single negative person to be found anywhere. All the ladies and gentlemen alike were unfailingly polite, an impressive feat considering the very crowded post-ride social at Marvin. With hundreds of vintage rides, as well as turn of the century duds, the riders turned countless heads during the crosstown ride. Yours truly was in attendance, toting my vintage film camera, keeping in the spirit of the event! Here are a few shots to give you a taste, and hopefully it will be bigger and even better when the ride occurs again in April 2010.
