This is super late I know but it’s still very necessary. Also for those who may not know, The Joint Chiefs is a collective of three alternative urban thinktanks in the DC area – The Glass House, The Couch Sessions and True Genius Requires Insanity. As someone who greatly inspired many in hip-hop, including my favorite rapper Nas, it was an honor to speak with Rakim about The Seventh Seal and his career. Afterwards I had to wonder if Rakim had come out five years ago spittin’ the same way he did 20 years ago, how would that impact rap music as we currently know it (I challenge you to answer this one)?
